The aim of the programmes

To direct the attention of children and young people to the historic importance of Gerulata as an area which was a part of the Roman Empire inside the Limes Romanus.



Programmes are held in: Ancient Gerulata in Rusovce,  Gerulatská, 69

From 6th June to 31st October 2006
Tuesday and Friday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Traces of vicus in Gerulata

For pupils from Second Grade of Elementary Schools and General Secondary Schools

An interactive educational programme with a mysterious name “vicus“ - “a settlement“. Aimed at the establishment and development of civilian life around the Gerulata camp. It deals with the existence of civilians who looked after the soldiers living in the military camp.The programme provides information about clothing, food and the life of adults and children. The interactive character of the programme is abetted by aids and various activities: photographs and text letters, moulding of some collection artefacts, folding of togas, determination of spices and food used in Ancient Rome. 


Roman legions in Gerulata

For pupils from Second Grade of Elementary Schools and General Secondary Schools

An interactive programme aimed at the origin, development and life in the Gerulata military camp at the turn of the 1st and 2nd centuries after Christ. It exposes the remains of walls of the Gerulata military camp as well as artefacts which were found in the course of archaeological research on this site. In the programme, the structure of the ancient Roman army and the tactics they exploited in their battles are also shown. The interactive character of the programme is abetted by aids and various activities: photographs and text letters, moulding of some collection artefacts, telling stories, etc.

 

The cycle of events is held under the auspices of : Bratislava, the capital of the Slovak Republic, Bratislava City Museum
